Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is a feminist media critic also a speaker who is Canadian. Feminist Frequency is a web site which hosts video and commentary discussing the way women are represented in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American media critic and blog writer with awards to show for her writing, is an activist blogger. She is the founder and director-executive of Feminist Frequency a non-profit educational website which explores the portrayals of women in popular media narratives. Determined to challenge the assumptions about women and popular culture, she is also working on issues related to the targeted harassment of women and the other minorities of individuals in the internet space. A graduate in social and political thought from York University Sarkeesian is also popular as a public speaking engagement and has given speech at TEDxWomen's XOXO Festival and also the United Nations' Broadband Working Group on Gender. As a child Sarkeesian was interested in the issues surrounding gender identity and feminist thought. As a student, in 2009, she founded the Feminist Frequency website. The determined lady had planned to create a web series that would examine gender representation within video games, and was herself the victim of a cyber-bullying campaign. However the attack could hinder her, instead it only strengthened her resolve as a feminist critic of media. As a result of the many contributions she has made to feministism, she's recognized with numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic who has won a variety of awards, and also founded Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit company that examines the ways women are represented in popular cultural narratives.
